About me

I have an academic background in microbiology and molecular biology. In 2021, I completed my bachelor’s degree in molecular biology & biotechnology from the Technical University Dresden. During my bachelor’s thesis, I studied microbial interactions in the context of natural product biosynthesis. That sparked my interest in microbiology, so I pursued a master’s degree in microbiology at the University of Tübingen, graduating in 2024.  In my final thesis, I investigated the biosynthesis and resistance mechanism of a novel antibiotic, which increased my awareness for the importance of antibiotic research.

During my studies, I had the chance to complete an internship at GSK in Marburg, where I learned firsthand about the practical applications of microbiology in industry.

I’m now looking forward to collaborating with experts from diverse backgrounds in the BREAKthrough project. I’m excited about the opportunity to collectively address the urgent need for novel antimicrobial treatments and combat the growing threat of antibiotic resistance.

About my project
DC10: Reassessing natural products for OM permeabilisation

Antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest threats to global health by the World Health Organization. There are increasing numbers of bacterial infections not responding to known antibiotics. The objective of the BREAKthrough project is to sensitise Gram-negative bacteria to antibiotics by making their outer membrane permeable. To this end, inhibitors of protein machineries that are responsible for OM maintenance will be developed. In this context, we will screen natural products produced by NAICONS’ large collection of microbial strains to identify potential inhibitors active against projected targets in this project.
